USB Cables 2.0 / 3.0 / 3.2 / 4

The evolution of USB (Universal Serial Bus) standards has been marked by significant improvements in data transfer speeds with each new version. Below is a summary of the different USB versions and their respective speeds:

1. USB 1.0
   - Released in January 1996.
   - Low Speed: 1.5 Mbps (Megabits per second).

2. USB 1.1
   - Officially released in August 1998.
   - Low Speed: 1.5 Mbps.
   - Full Speed: 12 Mbps.

3. USB 2.0
   - Released in April 2000.
   - Low Speed: 1.5 Mbps.
   - Full Speed: 12 Mbps.
   - High Speed: 480 Mbps.

4. USB 3.0 (also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.2 Gen 1)
   - Released in November 2008.
   - SuperSpeed: 5 Gbps (Gigabits per second).

5. USB 3.1 (also known as USB 3.1 Gen 2 and USB 3.2 Gen 2)
   - Released in July 2013.
   - SuperSpeed+: 10 Gbps.

 6. USB 3.2
   - Released in September 2017.
   - USB 3.2 Gen 1x1: SuperSpeed, 5 Gbps (equivalent to USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1).
   - USB 3.2 Gen 2x1: SuperSpeed+, 10 Gbps (equivalent to USB 3.1 Gen 2).
   - USB 3.2 Gen 2x2: SuperSpeed+ with a new double-lane operation, 20 Gbps.

7. USB4 Version 1.0
   - Announced in August 2019.
   - USB4 Gen 2x2: Up to 20 Gbps.
   - USB4 Gen 3x2: Up to 40 Gbps.

Each new generation of USB has been designed to be backward compatible with previous versions, although the highest speeds are only achievable when both the host device and the peripheral device support the same version of USB. Additionally, the actual data transfer speed can be influenced by various factors, including the device's capabilities, the quality of the cable, and the type of data being transferred.
